Face it honey. You’re not a model. You’re just a vain bitch. These ever-persistent famewhores are in desperate need of a reality check, and I’m going to give it to them.
I realize that thanks to the MTV generation, we’ve all grown up with the delusional idea we will -to quote Andy Warhol- be famous for 15 minutes. Sadly enough, this has been proven to be true. Reality shows highlighting pathetic playboy bunnies and jersey shore douches (I have nothing witty to say about this because I refuse to subject myself to that level of utter disgrace) showcase asinine behaviour while never forgetting to promote sex while glorifying slutty women. Intimately linked to this is of course, the ideals of female beauty this industry holds so dear; and to my regret, this pandemic of stupidity has trickled its way into mainstream society.
I can’t log onto Facebook anymore without seeing somebody’s recently added profile picture of them ‘modelling.’ “Hey look everybody I did a photoshoot!! See how hot I am,I'm gonna be famous :P comment away.”
Oh my god I can smell the insecure desperation through my computer screen.
Yes, if you creep me now I have some photoshoot pictures of myself and yeah I’ll be the first to admit I sought some self-validation by entering the modelling industry and posting them on Facebook for all to see; maybe prove a little something to all those assholes who called me ugly for half my life. But in all seriousness, I’m not a vain bitch. The fact that I have little to no picture comments will tell you that much. The most significant difference I need to mention is that I was sought out by a modelling agency and by no means banged down their doors in desperation.
Let me explain something about the modelling industry, it’s a real industry. Really. I mean, that is what some people do for an income, for a job, for a career. And you know when you go on a job interview and after some serious interrogation you get hired, the company invests in you, they train you, they PAY you! The modelling industry really isn’t any different. So yes random famewhore, you got signed on at Sutherland models? And they demand you pay $700 to build a portfolio, and oh yeah you also need to pay for some modelling classes and oh acting classes wouldn’t hurt either. Lucky for you, our agency offer all these services for a reasonable cost!
But you still broadcast online your abilities, your talents, you’re a future star after all.
Mostly, when I look past my disgust in humanity, it’s just sad. It’s sad that women can’t take pride in their intelligence. Why can’t we showcase real talents and trust that those will make us successful and fulfilled? Why do we need to be seeking validation from an industry built upon tearing women apart?
High fashion. High editorial modelling values diversity, and despite what obese people bitch about (sorry you have to be thin to model it’s just a fact of life) beauty is exotic, and hot couture values women who are unique looking.
Breast implants and fake tanning won’t get you into modelling, it will get you date raped on a dirty carpet in a ‘photographers’ basement.
I’d like to tell you that you are wasting thousands of dollars and you won’t make it. You won’t ever be taken seriously. But well, considering you have 80 picture comments and guys writing on your wall: Ooh baby you free tonight? Lets party, I guess you’re getting by just fine. I bet I will be seeing you on Dirty Shore real soon. But lest we forget, beauty is fleeting. Just read Dorian Gray. Oooooh sorry! I forgot you can’t read.
xoxo,
Devon
